DMV & vehicle titles
Which states require a notarized car title?
Most states let you transfer a vehicle without a notary — but a handful require the signature on the title to be notarized before ownership can change hands. Requirements also differ for a bill of sale, lien release, or out-of-state transfer. Find your state below, and notarize online in minutes if you need it.
Title must be notarized in
Arizona, Kentucky, Louisiana, Montana, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Wyoming.
Everywhere else the title itself usually doesn’t need a notary — but a notarized bill of sale is still smart proof of the sale.
