Notarization law · 2026

Is remote online notarization legal in your state?

Short answer: almost certainly yes. As of 2026, 50 states plus Washington, D.C. permanently authorize remote online notarization (RON). California is the lone holdout — its permanent RON law takes effect January 1, 2030 — but Californians can still notarize remotely through an out-of-state notary. Pick your state for the specifics.
