Deed recording fee changes, 2025–2026

Statewide fee and transfer-tax changes, and the county fee schedules that took effect, found while checking county recording fees against official sources. Each entry links to the statute or the county’s own schedule.

Statewide changes

Missouri · effective August 28, 2026

First-page recording fee up $2.00

Senate Bill 938 raised the statutory recording fee by $2.00. Most counties now charge $26.00 for the first page (was $24.00). The charter counties that set their own schedule moved by the same amount: Jackson and St. Charles now charge $23.00 (was $21.00).

Nebraska · effective July 18, 2026

Documentary stamp tax now $3.32 per $1,000 of value

Nebraska’s documentary stamp tax on deeds is $3.32 for each $1,000 of value, paid by the grantor to the Register of Deeds before recording. The statute schedules a drop to $2.32 in 2032.

New Jersey · effective July 10, 2025

Graduated fee on sales over $1 million, paid by the seller

On sales over $1,000,000, New Jersey’s realty transfer fee now includes a graduated percentage fee paid by the seller to the County Clerk at recording.
